TAPPING INTO THE “WHY”

So this past Saturday I reluctantly dragged myself out of bed at 6:45 a.m., dressed myself in the required business attire, and headed out the door to a mandatory ministry of helps meeting at my church. It’s only a few Saturdays out of the year that we do this but that particular Saturday was a struggle for me. Everything in me wanted to cover my head and sleep in. BUT I gave my word that I would attend so that sealed the deal for me. I knew it would be worth my time once I got there but I had no idea it would be all that it turned out to be! In three hours I came away with so much to help me grow as a person, not just a believer. It was all about how to best represent yourself as an open, approachable, and welcoming person so that you remain a gateway for building spiritual relationships. As the guest speaker spoke, I began to analyze myself and I came up with one undeniable fact… I’m none of those things!! Haha Read moreRead more

Pigeon Walk

Have you ever wondered why a pigeon walks so funny? I did. So I Goggled it, of course, because, what DOESN’T Google know?? Pigeons walk so funny so they can see where they’re going. A pigeon’s eyes can’t focus as it moves, so the bird actually has to bring its head to a complete stop between steps in order to refocus. It proceeds clumsily—head forward, stop, head back, stop.

So I began to notice, “Well what does a pigeon have to do with my walk with Christ?“ Read moreRead more

If he won’t do it, someone else will

Sort of as a sequel to my note on ***Knowing Your Worth, I just wanted to add a blurb that simply states: If he won’t do it, some one else sure will. If he doesn’t do the small, chivalrous things that you deserve…keep it moving…because there IS that right someone who will TAKE THE INITIATIVE to see you happy.

“R U Resting or Sleeping on God’s Promise”??

2 Peter 1:4 “He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

Monisha (B.C. B4 Christ) was VERY independent and when something needed to be done(DONE RIGHT) I did it myself.  When Truly SURRENDERING my life to Christ that ”MIND SET” became a HUGE struggle for me because I still felt the need to “Rest on MY PROMISE” to get it DONE instead of God’s promise of GETTING IT DONE. However, God has ALLOWED me to SUCCESSFULLY enter and GO THRU some situations that HE KNEW there was NO WAY I could DO/HANDLE BY MYSELF; therefore, it FORCED me to “Trust in the LORD with all my heart; and lean not on my own understanding. In all my ways I acknowledged him, and He directed my paths.” You see in this world I find that a lot of people don’t TRULY trust God, though they may SPEAK of trusting Him but their ACTIONS(You know a tree by the fruit it bears) show different.  Read moreRead more

Abuse in the Church…What Do You Think?

This blog is going to be very short, because I kind of wanna hear from you, the reader.  This week has definitely been a sensational and disturbing week for the African-American community.  As many of you know, one of the most prominent preachers, Bishop Eddie Long in Atlanta, has been accused of improper sexual conduct with three male members of his church.  As an attorney, I do believe in obtaining all the facts before casting judgment–so this is NOT that kind of post.  BUT…as a child of God, a person of faith, and one that unfortunately knows persons who have been abused by the church, I DO think this is something that Christians need to discuss openly.  Part of the “beef” I have had with the Catholic church when all their sexual scandals were emerging was that they were merely reactionary—they never took the LEAD on the investigations and mainly waited until allegations came out before addressing the issue.

BOO! SCARED YOU DIDN’T I?

Imagine yourself waiting in line to enter into the most intensely scary, haunted house of all time.

As the line gets shorter and you draw closer to going inside, your heart flutters uncontrollably. You find yourself shaking like the leaves of an oak on a breezy autumn day. Your hands begin to sweat as you hear the screams from inside. You put on a smile because you don’t want your friends to laugh at you and call you a punk. You begin to laugh nervously as it’s your turn to walk inside. Once you walk in, the doors close behind you and there is no turning back…. Read moreRead more

STOLEN IDENTITY

This past Sunday I was on my feet enjoying the praise team as they sang one of my favorite songs. I’m not 100 percent sure of the official title but I’m sure someone will be able to help me out… Here’s a snippet of the chorus … “I know my identity… my name is VICTORY. Victory… that’s my name, Victory… I know who I am!”

Whenever they sing it I’m on my feet, but last Sunday those words struck a major chord. It hit me when I began to imagine all of the people who truly do not know their identity or better yet, those who’ve had their identity stolen. There are millions of people going through unnecessary stress, turmoil, and depression all because they don’t have an understanding of who they are. Read moreRead more

The Proverbs 31 Woman

Throughout this whole week, in the back of my mind, Proverbs 31 kept running through my mind. I kept hearing what King Lemuel‘s mother taught him, “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.” (Proverbs 31:10) [Makes you think: I want to be worth far more than rubies.] And again and again would I hear, “Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.” (Proverbs 31:11) So who was the Proverbs 31 woman? Why did she make it into the Bible, holding her own chapter even. Now keep in mind that even though I am not of marrying age (according to my own mind & that of my father’s) I find the Proverbs 31 wife to be an excellent role model not only for wives, but even to young teen girls today!

So I thought about her. Could she be an example of how to be a friend? Could I follow in her footsteps? See, because what we might fail to remember is… Read moreRead more
